Dunes de Dovela Eco Lodge
Eco-lodge set on the dunes facing the Indian Ocean, 80 km south of Inhambane. Bungalows and dome tents in coastal forest, Manhame beach 5 minutes away.
The Dunes de Dovela Eco Lodge occupies the second dune ridge facing the Indian Ocean, on the southern coast of Mozambique. Bordered by pristine coastal forest, just minutes from Manhame beach, it caters to travelers seeking nature-based accommodation away from large beach resorts, with a commitment to responsible tourism.
Why stay here
- A rare location on a dune ridge overlooking the sea, with panoramic views of the ocean, dunes and forest from all accommodations.
- A genuine eco-lodge approach, integrated with the environment, without coastal development.
- Thoughtfully prepared home-cooked cuisine that blends French and Mozambican traditions.
- Direct access to Manhame beach (5 minutes on foot) and the village of Dovela, for an experience that extends beyond the shoreline.
Atmosphere
The lodge cultivates a discreet, unhurried atmosphere, where the coastal forest and ocean sounds set the pace. There are no loud activities or overcrowded pool areas: the place functions as a calm retreat, open to the surrounding nature. The library, private terraces and pathways to the beach shape your stay. The welcome is personalized, with staff who know their territory well and can guide you to local fishermen, the neighboring village or birdwatching areas.
Accommodation
Two options coexist, each with its own character.
The bungalows
Built at the top of the dunes, the bungalows feature a terrace and lounge area overlooking the sea. The bathroom includes a double vanity and bathtub, with separate toilet and outdoor shower. Beds are available as two single beds or a king size, making them ideal for couples. Sunrise over the ocean can be enjoyed directly from the bedroom.
Dunes Bush Camp
For a more immersive experience in the coastal forest, Dunes Bush Camp offers 3x3 m dome-shaped tents mounted on wooden platforms. Each platform accommodates two tents, suitable for a small family or group of friends. Tents equipped with a double bed are geared toward couples. The outdoor terrace overlooks the dunes, with distinctive lighting at day's end.
Dining
The restaurant serves fusion Franco-Mozambican cuisine, built around fresh, local ingredients. Eggplant, langoustines and passion fruit are among the staple ingredients. Bread, pastries, ice cream and jams are prepared on-site. Special dietary requirements are accommodated upon request to the chef, and packed lunches can be prepared for day trips away from the lodge.
