Casa Na Praia
Casa Na Praia
3-star colonial lodge in Tofo, 8 sea-view rooms and direct access to one of Mozambique's best diving beaches.
Casa Na Praia occupies a colonial-style pavilion set directly on the sand of Tofo, on Mozambique's south-eastern coast. Eight rooms, all with views over the Indian Ocean, a three-star rating and direct access to one of the country's most renowned beaches for diving and whale watching.
Why choose Casa Na Praia
The property combines three rare assets for the region: a beachfront location with your toes in the sand (Tofo beach is a two-minute walk away), an intimate setting limited to eight rooms, and preserved colonial architecture that stands out against the village's newer constructions. Every suite overlooks the ocean without exception. Breakfast is included, and the team can arrange diving trips, whale-watching excursions or day trips to Inhambane on request.
Atmosphere and architecture
The main pavilion follows colonial principles: open volumes, verandas, a terrace facing the open sea and a tropical garden. The whole property embraces the feel of a lived-in beach house rather than a standardised hotel. The terrace and garden serve as shared living spaces, and the beach bar extends the experience right onto the sand. The property is non-smoking and welcomes pets, which remains uncommon in the region.
The rooms
Casa Na Praia offers 8 air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms and complimentary toiletries. Four suite categories are distributed as follows, all with sea views:
- Queen-Size Bed Suite — 36 m²: one queen-size bed
- Suite — 20 m²: one king-size bed
- Superior Suite — 42 m²: one single bed, one double bed and a sofa bed
- Superior Suite — 35 m²: two single beds and one double bed
The configurations suit couples, families and groups of friends travelling together equally well.
Dining and services
The restaurant serves breakfast included in your stay, as well as meals throughout the day. A café and bar complement the pavilion facilities, while the beach bar takes over in the late afternoon. Room service is available for meals in your room.
Common amenities include: terrace, garden, picnic area and barbecue facilities. A massage service is available on request, and the team can advise on local visits and activity bookings.
Geographic location
Casa Na Praia is located at Praia do Tofo, on Mozambique's south-eastern coast, in Inhambane province. Practical landmarks:
- Tofo beach: 2 minutes' walk
- Barra beach: approximately 20 minutes by car
- Town of Inhambane (park, museum, Heroes' Square): around 25 minutes by car
- Inhambane airfield: 21 km
When to visit
Tofo can be visited year-round thanks to a pleasant tropical climate, but two periods stand out. From May to October, the dry season offers the best conditions for diving with whale sharks and manta rays. From July to October, humpback whales migrate up the Mozambique Channel: this is the prime period for sea-based observations. The warm and humid season (December-March) remains pleasant but can experience rainy spells.
Activities and surroundings
Tofo is one of southern Africa's most renowned diving spots. On site or through the hotel: scuba diving, snorkelling, whale watching in season, kayaking, fishing and beach horse riding. The village maintains a laid-back atmosphere, with craft markets and small fish restaurants.
To extend your journey on the nature side or discover other facets of the country, you can combine with other lodges such as Nuarro Lodge to the north or Ossimba Beach Lodge on the Quirimbas archipelago.
