N'Tendele Lodge
Secluded lodge on Lake Niassa, in the Meponda region in northern Mozambique. 13 boat-accessible accommodations, solar-powered operations and water activities.
N'Tendele Lodge occupies an isolated stretch of Lake Niassa's shores (also known as Lake Malawi), in the Meponda region of northern Mozambique. The property features 13 accommodations and operates with energy independence thanks to solar panels and wind turbines. Access is by boat from Meponda beach, making it a favored base for travelers seeking nature-focused stays and lake activities.
Why choose N'Tendele Lodge
Three elements set this lodge apart from other accommodations in Niassa province. First, its location: a cove on Lake Niassa, one of Africa's clearest lakes, accessible only by boat. Second, its close-loop operation, with home-cooked cuisine made from fresh produce sourced from local organic farming. Third, the range of accommodations available, designed to welcome couples, groups, and budget-conscious travelers alike.
Atmosphere
The lodge embraces simplicity. Electricity runs on renewable energy, Wi-Fi remains basic, and evening lighting gives way to the sound of the lake. Shared spaces—lounge, reading corner, library, shaded terraces and self-service bar—are designed to encourage guest interaction without imposing constant activity. The pace is leisurely, dictated by boat arrivals and departures, with meals often taken outdoors when weather permits.

A shuttle can be arranged on request from Lichinga to the embarkation point.
What to see nearby
Niassa region remains one of Mozambique's least frequented areas. It lends itself well to a broader itinerary including the northern coast and its lodges facing the Indian Ocean, such as Nuarro Lodge on Nanatha Bay or Ossimba Beach Lodge. Safari enthusiasts can extend their stay with a visit to Hlane Royal National Park Ndlovu Camp.
