When to visit?
The ideal period falls between May and September, in the heart of the dry season. Wildlife is more visible around water points, vegetation less dense, weather pleasant and mosquitoes rare. June to August are ideal months.
From Hoedspruit Airport (Eastgate), allow approximately 40 to 50 minutes travel time on a well-maintained road to reach the reserve. The final kilometres are on dirt track, but remain passable.

Practical information
- Opening hours: The reserve is generally accessible from 6am to 6pm. Excursions depart at first light and often finish in late afternoon. Night safaris are organized according to seasons and conditions.
- Entrance fees: Access fees vary depending on activities (day safari, overnight, guided excursions). Expect on average between 20 and 50 USD per person for safaris, with reduced rates for children. Lodge stays often include activities.
- Vaccinations and health: No specific mandatory vaccine for the reserve, but it is recommended to be up-to-date for yellow fever if coming from a risk zone. Protect yourself against malaria, present in the region, by taking anti-mosquito precautions and preventive treatment.
- Clothing: Opt for lightweight, covering clothes in neutral colours (beige, khaki), a hat, sunglasses, and good hiking shoes. Evenings can be cool, especially in winter (June-August).
- Currency and payment: The local currency is the South African rand (ZAR). Establishments on-site accept card or cash payments. Remember to bring cash for minor purchases.
